Hair Extension Care

Taking care of Hair Extensions.

Caring for hair extensions is a bit different from caring for natural hair. 10 things you should know.

1. As your natural oils can not get down to your hair extension they need to be washed 3-4 days in salon shampoo & conditioner to keep the hair fully hydrated at all times. If you don't moisturize your hair extensions they will become brittle and break easily leading to split and ratty ends.

2. A leave-in moisturizer must be used daily to keep extensions fully hydrated.

3. Hair extension loop brushes do help with the brushing of your hair as these brushes are gentle around the attachments of your own hair. Make sure you use the loop brush on the root section 2-3 times daily making sure you hold the top of your extensions while you brush the long lengths of extensions.

4. ALWAYS plait your hair loosely when you go to bed, this stops it from getting large knots.

5. When swimming and exercising always tie your hair back and make sure you apply a leave in conditioner before swimming to stop the chlorine dehydrating the extensions. After sport make sure you wash your extensions straight away.

6. Make sure you run your fingers through your hair 2-3 times each day to separate the hair from the extensions, this will stop any hair from matting.

7. It is best to let your extensions air dry naturally but you can blow dry on a low to medium heat.

8. Do not tint, colour or perm extensions. Only ever colour you hair with the help of a professional hair dresser who has knowledge of hair extensions.

9. Hair appliances can be used such as tongs and hot irons. Always remember that hair extensions are normal hair, so always us a thermal protection spray to protect the hair from heat.

10. You should expect your extensions to last between 2-4 months depending on the rate of growth of your hair and the way you care and treat your hair.
